MEN, PLANKS, OCEANS
, work in progress
The work MEN, PLANKS, OCEANS consists of 15 collages, each measuring 60x42 cm, and was created during my residency scholarship in the Hanseatic city of Rostock at the end of 2025. Here, I focused on the history of the merchant navy and seafaring. The source material for my work is publications released by the People's Publishing House of the German Democratic Republic, from which I generated visual material for my collages. In appropriating and reinterpreting the images, I was preoccupied with reflections on historically and culturally developed narratives revolving around seafaring. My newly created pictorial spaces deconstruct predefined specifications on gender relations, the appropriation of the natural environment of the sea and marine life, conquests, shipwrecks and seafaring myths.
